The Chimo Group
| Size | 20.29 km² (2,029 hectares over 4 properties) |
| Location | 40 km east of Val d'Or, Quebec |
| Ownership | 100% |
Brief history:
Historically, most of the exploration work in the area was focused on the Chimo Mine, which produced 1.5 million tonnes at 6.5 g/t Au, and its lateral extensions. Since 2006, work done by Plato Gold on their Nordeau West property defined a drill indicated gold resource of 30,212 ounces (225,342 tonnes at 4.2 g/t Au). Drilling in the western part of the Nordeau East Gold Zone also intersected economic gold values near the Chimo Centre property (12.28 g/t Au over 6.5 metres, and 9.1 g/t Au over 5.6 metres). The lateral and down dip extensions of these mineralized zones are located on our properties.
Geological characteristics:
The Chimo Group is located in the eastern part of the prolific Abitibi greenstone belt, south of the interpreted eastern extension of the famous Cadillac Larder Lake Fault Zone, which has an orientation of 110° in this area. These properties are underlain mostly by the Trivio Formation, a volcano/sedimentary sequence consisting of mafic volcanic units with greywacke, siltstones, conglomerates and few oxyde iron formations.
These properties surround the former Chimo Gold Mine. They also cover the lateral and down dip extensions of the Nordeau East Gold Zone and Nordeau West Gold Zone. In the area, two main types of gold mineralization are observed. The first type occurs in sub-vertical shear zones in the mafic volcanic rocks, and consists of smoky quartz veins and veinlets with less than 5% sulphides. The second type is associated with disseminated to semi-massive sulphide with silicified lodes in the magnetite iron formations (replacement type), at or near the contact with the volcanic units.
